GEF Transport Project
As part of its transition toward a low-carbon economy, Morocco has launched the GEF-Transport project aimed at integrating climate issues into the national strategy for logistics competitiveness. Implemented by the Ministry of Equipment, Transport, Logistics, and Water with the support of UNDP and the Global Environment Facility, this project supports the Kingdom’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from road freight transport, which accounts for 90% of national freight.
The project is part of a broader transformation of Morocco’s logistics sector, aiming to reduce CO₂ emissions from freight transport by 35%. It is based on modernizing logistics platforms, streamlining supply chains, and integrating climate risk considerations into infrastructure planning.
This capitalization report reviews the results achieved, the implementation approach, key lessons learned, and recommendations to ensure the sustainability and replicability of the outcomes. It also highlights Morocco’s commitment to greening its logistics sector while strengthening its competitiveness and honoring its international commitments under the Paris Agreement.
