GEF-Transport Project: Survey and Inventory of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions from Freight Transport Fleets
As part of the GEF-Transport project, a mission was carried out to integrate climate considerations into Morocco’s national logistics strategy. The main objective was to assess greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from freight transport by road and rail, and to identify mitigation levers to guide decarbonization policies in the sector.
The main achievements of the project were:
A comprehensive assessment and benchmarking of international best practices for GHG emissions inventory of road and rail fleets
Developing a detailed methodology for fleet profiling and structured collection of emissions data
Conducting the GHG emissions inventory for road and rail freight transport fleets
Developing a centralized system for data collection and automated calculation of GHG emissions
This project strengthened the national database on logistics sector emissions while providing a strategic tool to guide mitigation actions in freight transport
