Development of the GEF Project “Renewable Energy for Marrakech’s BRT System”
As part of the development of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Marrakech, this mission aims to formulate a project proposal for the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to fund a 1 MW solar power plant designed to supply the charging stations for the electric buses of the urban transport system.
This project is part of a strategy to decarbonize public transport and promote renewable energy in Moroccan cities.
The services provided include:
Organization and facilitation of workshops (kick-off, technical follow-up, validation)
Calculation of GHG emissions from the urban and intercity transport sector in Marrakech
Assessment of emission reductions enabled by the solar power project
Definition of the project logical framework
Development of a monitoring and evaluation plan
Implementation of a sustainability plan to ensure the long-term viability of the initiative
Definition of institutional management arrangements
Proposal of the project’s financial structure (including potential co-financing)

This innovative project aims to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of low-carbon solutions in urban transport while contributing to Morocco’s climate objectives.
