Support for the Establishment of a National Greenhouse Gas Inventory System (SNI-GHG) in Morocco
As part of the 4C project, supported by GIZ and funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUB-IKI), this mission assisted Morocco in the introduction and institutionalization of a National GHG Inventory System (SNI-GHG). The objective was to establish a reliable national framework to support MRV systems, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), NAMA actions, and to guide the country’s climate and energy policies.
The main activities carried out were:
Facilitating the establishment of a nationally approved institutional framework for the SNI-GHG
Training and capacity building of institutional actors involved in the preparation of national inventories
Technical support for data collection, archiving, use of IPCC tools, emission calculations, and production of CRF tables
Technical verification of inventory results and data validation
Assistance in drafting the technical report and summary report in compliance with UNFCCC requirements
Preparation of a sectoral methodological guide for data management, updating, and submission in CRF format
Estimation of the annual costs associated with operating the SNI-GHG

This project enabled Morocco to establish a structured, sustainable system compliant with international standards for monitoring its national GHG emissions, essential for guiding its climate strategy.
