The project "Greening COP22 in Marrakech" is an initiative launched by the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Sustainable Development, responsible for Sustainable Development (SEDD) in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The project's objective is to encourage the transition of Moroccan cities toward a low-carbon model by supporting the organization of COP22 in Marrakech in November 2016. This initiative aims to demonstrate Morocco's commitment to combating climate change by reducing its carbon footprint through four key components: the development of thematic gardens, the establishment of eco-neighborhoods, the construction of low-carbon public buildings, and the promotion and installation of various low-emission transport modes.
In addition to these components, the project also aims to increase awareness and visibility of the low-emission initiatives undertaken by Morocco. Therefore, the project has integrated information sessions, knowledge-sharing events, training programs, and more.
ECI has been mandated to evaluate the positive impacts of the project "Greening COP22 in Marrakech" and to explore the possibility of upscaling actions in other surrounding provinces of the Marrakech-Safi region based on their readiness to host these initiatives and maximize benefits.
