Having hosted the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP22) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), demonstrating Morocco's commitment to combating climate change, the Prefecture of Marrakech joined this movement and launched, in January 2017, the project to develop its Territorial Climate Plan, along with its two urban municipalities and thirteen rural municipalities.
ECI was mandated by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Environment in partnership with the General Directorate of Local Authorities (DGCL) to carry out this project. Its main objective is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by the identified territory and to limit its vulnerability to the effects of climate change. ECI intervenes at this level by conducting the greenhouse gas inventory for the territory, analyzing its vulnerability, and proposing an action plan for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change.
