Study on the Methodologies for Certifying Carbon Offset Projects
The Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, in a proactive and participatory approach with its partners, has launched a study aimed at establishing a nationally recognized reference framework that can certify various Voluntary Carbon Compensation (VCC) projects. This initiative aims to offset greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for Moroccan companies that are constrained by international regulations. As the contractor for this study, ECI plans to carry out the following activities:Benchmarking and analysis of the methodologies of the main independent certification mechanisms for carbon offset projects recognized worldwide.Assessment of the certification potential for existing VCC projects in relation to the identified methodologies of international mechanisms. These two activities are expected to result in a methodological guide for project certification and a roadmap for deployment.
