As part of the project "Improvement of Energy Infrastructure in the Oriental Region" (APIELO) by GIZ, the firm ECI has been mandated to carry out the following:

1. Identification and assessment of the GHG mitigation potential of flagship projects in line with the new directions of Morocco's revised NDC;
2. Analysis of the regulatory and policy framework related to the selected flagship projects;
3. Analysis of the relevant climate financing mechanisms for the selected flagship projects, which included: i) the development of an international and national benchmark of financial mechanisms, ii) the evaluation of the feasibility of the selected projects to benefit from various financing mechanisms, and iii) assisting the Oriental Region in developing a roadmap for financing mechanisms.

The selected flagship mitigation projects fall within the sectors of public lighting, buildings (residential and tertiary), transportation, and industry, with cross-cutting support measures.

Meetings with local stakeholders in the region and identified donors are to be considered in order to examine the feasibility of this roadmap, allowing the Oriental Region to subsequently take ownership of it and take action toward a genuine energy transition, thereby aligning itself with a low-carbon sustainable development trajectory.
